Adam's Friend

Hey guys and girls,

Well I'm Nick and I'm here invited by Adam as I have somehow convinced him that I have some ability when it comes to painting minis.

So a bit about me.... I have been playing Warhammer 40k for longer than I care to admit, (somewhere around 2nd Ed I think) on and off the whole time and always seeming to need to start again when my interest peeks and I succumb to the call of war. When I think about it, I have dabbled with every army when it comes to painting, but each time it comes to starting an army, I am always drawn to the mighty space marines. Nothing screams "bad-ass" then shoulder pads bigger than your head and a gun with a muzzle big enough to eat small children that shoots mini-nukes at anything that get in your way.

For me the hobby began when a friend of mine was playing the wizards of the coast game "Magic the gathering". I opted to fill in for one of his games he was short, using his deck and I beat him.... Long story short and much frustration for him being beaten by his own decks repeatedly, we opted to have a go at something that required more tactical acumen, that had more diversity and there was no chance I was going to beat him.....

Ultramarines Pt.1 - Bases

Hi all, Felix here!

Since we're in the leadup to the Horus Heresy Inferno Tournament in June, it's a great opportunity to start posting on the progress of my army for the event.

As stated before, I've chosen to do Ultramarines for my Legion, the problem here being that I have very little time (two and a half weeks at time of writing) before the event itself yet I have a grand total of ZERO resin soldiers to paint!
I'm checking the mail frequently for postal slips so I can get started, though it's really starting to look like I'm going to have a mad rush to get things painted and ready in time for the event.
Figures crossed!

Enter the Felix

First things first,

Welcome to the Warrior Lodge, a Warhammer 30k (Horus Heresy) blog that hopes to follow the hobby exploits of myself (Felix) and fellow contributors, Adam (see previous post), Nick and Cameron.

So, for introductions, my name is Felix. I have been a Wargamer for well over ten years at this point, starting at an age of 10 when I was given my first starter paint set by my grandmother.
14 years, dozens of games and, many, MANY thousands of dollars later I've found myself almost back at square one when it comes to my favourite passtime.

Introduction!

I'd been meaning to start one of these for a while, and was fortunate that the other night while chatting with Felix, that he suggested we give it a go (the Galaxy in Flames blog by some of the WW40k guys is what really inspired myself). I figured I'd also invite my mate Nick along as well, so theres at least one talented painter on here to make up for my shortcomings!

A little about myself (and I'll let the others explain their history in the hobby as well). I've been collecting for coming up to 15 years now, starting before my teens, when one of my mates at high school suckered me in, though living no where near a store that sold it, always left us looking forward to our occasional trip up to Brissy. It wasn't until i finally moved here just before my 21st that i really got into the Hobby though, when i was fortunate enough to score a job working at GW for a few years, most of this time spent in a Bunker.

I left there just as the Horus Heresy stuff started to get released from Forge World, and though 40k was starting to leave me a tad burnt out, the Legion list looked amazing, the book itself blew me away with its quality, there was no shortage of background to read, and the list itself offered so many options. The biggest issue it left me with was which Legion to collect, originally going to go with Dark Angels, I ended up changing my mind a half dozen times until finally settling on Imperial Fists, well at least until I saw the Taghmata Omnissiah list in Book III, now I'm painting up an army for that as well which I'll be progressing along with pictures and musings on the list itself, while I'm also organising a Horus Heresy 2500 point tournament that will be run next week (thanks to Games Workshop Mt Gravatt for offering their bunker up for our use).

And to start with, here is what will be one of the first units for my list.
